From Pastor Larry
Since we are beginning a new partnership in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I have been asked to introduce myself and my family.
I grew up in a working-class family with my parents, three brothers and a sister in Danville, Illinois and attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and Danville High School. My college days started at Concordia, Ann Arbor. After graduating from college and the seminary, I returned to my Vicarage (Intern) Congregation in Ventura, California as Associate Pastor and Youth Minister. Then I was Called to a mission congregation in Prescott Valley, Arizona and asked to start a new church in Prescott. That is where my wife Joan and I met, and our oldest son was born. My next call took us to Lake Arrowhead, California, where our second son and daughter were born.
In 1995, we moved to the Ann Arbor area so that I could serve as the first Called Pastor of Peace Lutheran. Peace is the daughter of St. Paul, Ann Arbor, started to serve the West Side of Ann Arbor and the Dexter communities. I served at Peace for 25 years, helping the congregation acquire property, build the church, and grow the ministry.
After my retirement in June of 2020, I was Called to serve as the Intentional Interim Pastor at Saint Michaels Lutheran Church, Richville, Michigan from August 2020 to November, 2021.
I have always enjoyed sports and still try to work out three or four days a week. Joan has a sewing business that I help with by taking furniture apart to be reupholstered. We work together on the flower gardens around our house. Photography and working with stained glass are two hobbies I enjoy.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you and serving with you at Open Arms.
